Exam Anxiety
Both children and adults can become anxious about exams they have to take. This can affect their learning, studying, revision and actual performance in exams – as well other aspects of their life. Hypnosis can help:
- Young children who are worried about SATS
- Young people facing GCSEs/A levels
- College/University students
- Adults returning to study later in life or after taking a break
Ideally it is better to work on exam anxiety as early as possible in the academic year. However, it is never too late to start dealing with exam anxiety – even in the second term of the academic year.
Exam anxiety can be dealt with in individual or group sessions. The length of individual sessions for a child will be dependant on age; and usually 3 to 4 sessions will be needed.
Exam Anxiety Group sessions are of 1 hour duration and 6 sessions are part of the package. I have run Exam Anxiety Groups in schools for years now and they have proven to be very effective and successfull. However, not all schools offer the Hypnotherapy in Schools Programme (HISP) to students, so I also run Exam Anxiety Groups in my two practice locations.
Exam anxiety can present itself in different ways and can have various effects on a person’s life. Therefore, sessions are adapted to meet the needs of the individual or group. However, some of the things which will be worked on are:
- Changing thoughts, feelings and behaviours
- Relaxation exercises
- Techniques to deal with anxiety/panic attacks
- Body temperature
- Resting and sleeping problems
- Managing time and taking control
- Learning and revising
- Storing and recalling information
- Preparing for/being in an exam
- Confidence building
- Looking to the future
