Pregnancy & Birthing
I provide both individual sessions and group classes for:
i) a mum
ii) a mum and a birthing partner – whoever mum wants that to be
iii) surrogate and intended parents.
There can be many benefits in using hypnosis during a pregnancy – for mum, baby and anyone who plans to be involved in the birth. Giving birth is a natural and normal function of the body; and should be a wonderful experience. However, sometimes a pregnancy is unplanned and comes at the wrong time; or a pregnancy is unwanted due to trauma experienced (e.g. being raped or forced married; being a survivor of abuse – current or historical). I find having a long career in social work and specialising in abuse issues enables me to design bespoke packages to help and support a client through the pregnancy.
The ideal time to attend sessions is anytime between 12 and 35 weeks into the pregnancy, but the earlier the better. Hypnosis can help mum to relax through pregnancy and prepare well for the actual birth; and it can also help with the following:
- Morning sickness
- Hypertension
- Empower bonding with baby
- Reduce any fears or tension
- Shorten labour
- Pain management
INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS: can be designed specifically to meet the needs of mum (and anyone else planning to support her at the birth). The number of sessions required will be dependent on those needs and an individual pregnancy and birthing package will be developed. Sessions will run for either 1, 1.25 or 1.5 hours. A basic pregnancy and birthing package will include the following:
- Hypnosis: what it is; how it can help; the benefits
- Stages of pregnancy, labour and birth
- Exercise and nutrition
- Preparing for the birth
- Developing a birth plan
- Breathing exercises
- Relaxation
- Self hypnosis
- Addressing specific fears/worries
- Learning techniques
- Bonding with baby
- Promoting well-being
- Information sheets/handouts
- CD/tracks for practice
Modules can be added to the basic package to meet specific individual needs (e.g. if a particular fear or phobia needs to be dealt with; anticipated premature labour).
GROUP CLASSES ARE RUN ON DEMAND.
