Working Through Regrets

The subject of regrets is often not given the attention it deserves; possibly because people are frequently told that “Life is too short to have regrets”. However, it is a subject which arises and is addressed frequently when I work with clients. I believe it is crucial for a client’s wellbeing to acknowledge and identify their regrets and then to actively work through them (either in one-to-one hypnotherapy sessions or in a group).

The road of regrets is a concept I have developed over the years in my own practice for a client to work with during hypnotherapy sessions, when regrets need to be worked through. The road of regrets helps the client to understand that regrets are a normal part of everyday life, but sometimes there is a need to do some in-depth work about them along that road; especially when some regrets are adversely affecting one’s life. I have developed a 5-stage process to work through when travelling along the road of regrets:

Stage 1: Identifying and acknowledging regrets
Stage 2: Working through regrets by looking back at the past and considering what happened; and identifying the associated emotions
Stage 3: Taking action(s) to deal with any unresolved issues
Stage 4: Releasing the regrets and emotions
Stage 5: Planning for the future.

I offer individual sessions to work through regrets and I also facilitate regrets groups for assessment purposes.
